I figured I'd finally comment on the below list of my favorite films, but I've updated my top twenty quite a bit. I'll post it now and add more comments with each edit.
01. The Dreamers.
One of the few films that portrays the lovely, enjoyable aspects of youth as well as the anger and troubles, as opposed to showing one side. Glorious, and can be analysed for hours.
02. Leaving Las Vegas.
A surprisingly touching and real take on love that doesn't attempt to show it as completely sweet and fun. Human, engrossing relationship between the two and a shattering resolution.
03. Moulin Rouge!
Supremely entertaing, romantic, exciting and vibrant. The lack of depth is more than made up for. Spectacular, spectacular.
04. Buffalo '66.
Hypnotically odd, enticingly adorable, quietly hilarious. A very natural film and an amazing first-time achievement.
05. Breaking the Waves.
Utterly harrowing. Von Trier's character is incredibly painful to watch in her complete devotion and naivete, and watching her downfall is one of the most haunting film experiences I've had.
06. The Sweet Hereafter.
07. Dogville.
08. La Dolce Vita.
09. Cries and Whispers.
10. The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
11. Elephant.
12. Band of Outsiders.
13. Almost Famous.
14. Belle de jour.
15. Before Sunrise.
16. An Affair to Remember.
17. Titanic.
18. The Virgin Suicides.
19. We Don't Live Here Anymore.
20. Days of Heaven.
